Kelsey Philippi, LPC-IT (she/her)
Psychotherapist
Reproductive Mental Health - child free by choice & planning
Hello there! I’m so grateful you’re here.
Woohoo! You made it. Take a deep breath and celebrate taking the first step of the next part of your journey. When I say that I’m grateful you’re here, I really mean it. I hold the relationships I have with clients with the utmost respect and honor-thank you for entrusting me with to bear witness to your innermost world.
Now let’s get to work!
The clients I see:
I see both individuals and relationships (romantic partners, friends, siblings-whomever you are in relationship with) who are coping through the waves of their lives. My clients are typically adults 18+.
Many clients who come to me have experienced trauma, infertility, or are considering whether the next part of life includes children or not. I also have a special interest in climate psychology, perfectionism, and burnout.
My therapy style:
My style is truly client centered-I tailor my practice to fit your unique goals, hopes, and wishes. I also use a socio-ecological approach so we can understand what’s happening intrapsychically, interpersonally, in your community, and systemically. I’m a big nerd so love to incorporate psychoeducation, mindfulness, and humor in my sessions.
My path to becoming a therapist was not linear. I draw from my experience working in wildlife ecology, fertility, and research. I think compassionate curiosity and authenticity are our greatest strengths in the therapeutic space.
I am also now offering EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). It’s a great method to help heal trauma.
tldr: It’s important to me that you find someone who is a good fit. Let’s chat to see if we might click!
What I’m like:
If I’m not in my office, I probably have a large orange or gray cat in my lap while I read. Typically, I can be found outside hiking, birding, paddling, or simply checking to see what color the lake is that day. When I am in nature, I am the most myself. I often pull literary themes in session from poets, novelists, and contemporary writers. On my bookshelf you can find Mary Oliver, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Aldo Leopold, and Pema Chodron…and lots and lots of therapy books.
My training and education:
I graduated from Northwestern University Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and am working toward full licensure under Emily Aleksy, LCSW. I have specific training in fertility mental health from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, perinatal mental health from Postpartum Support International, and couples therapy training from the Gottman Institute. Additionally, I am a certified Equine Assisted Growth and Learning (EAGALA) mental health specialist, but sadly Emily won’t let me bring horses to the office. I’ll keep working on it.
I have a bachelors of science in animal behavior and a bachelors of arts in anthropology. I often utilize ecological thinking in session so we can consider how you may (or may not) be engaging with the environment and systems around you. I completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training and am committed to my self practice. Intersectional feminism, advocacy, and sex positivity are important to me, and I try to stay as up to date as possible.
